'ROBOTS' is the working title for the story of a young soldier in the Royal Mechanical Corps, an imagined army of autonomous super weapons and the men that maintained them, and it records the world changing and history changing events that took place in the summer of 1916.
I propose to create 'original' historical documents from the fictional history of this story such as an 'authentic' RMC Operations Manual for a Mark V Mechanical Fighting Unit. This will document the design, construction and maintenance of a 'mechanical' or Tallman as they were called by the troops (derived from Stalhman or steel man, the name given to the machines by German soldiers). It will also outline training practices for the familiarisation of troops to the MFU and instructions and tactics for use in battle.
My intention is to create documents that conform with typography and design norms of the time and to weather and present them in such a way as to create a sense of authenticity. I hope that this authenticity along with clues provided, will raise questions for the reader sufficient to suggest a story or 'imply a narrative'.
