Art Workshops for Schools

As a professional artist and illustrator, exhibiting in galleries across Cornwall and Devon, and an outstanding art teacher with 15 years experience, 11 of them as a Head of Art, I am able offer you a wide range of art workshops. From a day of one hour sessions, working with different key stage 3 classes, to a full days workshop for a single GCSE group, I am able to prepare and deliver a bespoke workshop uniquely geared to your students. Having successfully taught photography, fine art and graphic communication up to level 3, I am happy to deliver workshops in any of these and to all year groups. Before teaching I worked as an animator and I have delivered a number of animation workshops at events such as Animated Exeter and in schools.

To begin I explained and showed the students the process of developing an idea from concept to outcome. I feel it is key to emphasise the importance of experimenting, and failing, in the creative process.

Students used thumbnail drawings to explore the composition and plan larger experiments. This helps them to select the best images to work from.

Next we experimented with a range of tools and techniques in order to discover good combinations before applying these to series of outcomes.

I really want students thinking about how to make marks that ‘feel’ right for their particular picture and to try and un[ick the misconception that there is only one, right way to use a pencil or brush.
