Origin

Robot One was a creation I used first in a comic strip called The Difficult Decision, made for my two youngest children to help explain the separation of their parents. (above)

A robot provided a great metaphor for the human condition and I developed it next into a short story, Being Human, that examined communication. (below)

The final step was to christen the robot One, in order to empathise the metaphor; One is any or all of us.

Precis

Set on a space station, A Different Hard Drive is a story about Robot One and his unexpected defeat of the antagonist Dr Doom. He is given a mission by his sponsor Despatchbot 2.0 and we follow as he experiences a series of simple mishaps. The final act takes place as the mishaps are revealed to have saved the day and then in a final twist Ones easily distracted nature is revealed as hyper focus as he hacks the space station computer to defeat Dr Doom.
